PRIMEVAL X NOVEL COVER RECREATION
A brand new retro style Primeval X Promotional Image has been published offering a nostalgic trip back to the source material of Primeval X, the original Novel Cover. This unique piece of marketing involved recreating the original Novel Cover piece by piece, with all new high resolution elements, and of course, Action Figures.
The Cover Recreation almost pixel for pixel reconstructs the official Novel Cover from back in 2008. To achieve this iconic and nostalgic appearance in celebratory of Steve Savile's original Novel, Owen Price photographed the 5" Character Options Nick Cutter Action Figure, holding a sword accessory from the Doctor Who 5" Figure Line that closely matched the one seen on the Novel Cover. The 5" Smilodon Action Figure was also used as this is the animal that was used on the original Cover as placeholder for the main antagonist of Primeval X (we won't state it's identity, just in case you haven't read the Novel and want to avoid spoilers). A lot of photographs were taken from many different angles, attempting to recapture the look of the original as closely as possible. And once the desired shots were taken, vast quantities of image manipulation, recolouring and grading, rendering, and tweaks such as Cutter's eyes being edited to face towards camera and Cutter's head being slightly titled, were necessary.
Despite not being the font used for the rest of the Primeval X branding, the font seen on the Novel Cover was used to add extra authenticity, and to stay as true as possible to the original cover, the colouration and blurred motion effect on the Primeval logo was replicated to the best match possible. The 'X' iconography was not included as of course the Novel was not originally intended to be part of this special Episode.

So, outside of the design process, what else does this promotional image tell us? Well, not really too much. Other than the Episode will most likely be as true to the original as feasibly possible with the restraints of Stop Motion Animation, and that the Episode will undoubtedly be littered with references and Easter eggs that will please long term fans of Primeval.

The recreation will also been integrated as part of the official poster campaign, which offers new insights on the updated release date for the special. With the Novel (and as a result the special itself) being set in between Series 2, producer Owen Price deemed it best to push back the release date to 10 years on from the second Series of Primeval, meaning the X (10 in Roman Numerals) retains it's relevance, and a longer duration for the projects completion is available. This version of the image also includes the red rustic colour grading seen in the other Primeval X Promotional Images, as opposed to the original green palette. This version of the poster will be available to view soon!
