PRIMEVAL X TEASER TRAILER RELEASED
The first Teaser Trailer for the upcoming 10th Anniversary Special of Primeval, Primeval X: Shadow of the Jaguar, has been officially released. The Teaser Trailer gives us our first look of what to expect. The Teaser Trailer accompanies the recently released Teaser Poster, featuring the same 'X' iconography seen previously.
The Teaser Trailer takes the view point of Professor Nick Cutter, impersonated by Oliver Pajak, as the character rounds up the ideology and concept of the Anomalies, whilst hinting at future developments, plot wise, to the phenomenon. Although the Teaser Trailer doesn't actually include any footage from the Special, and is simply a promotional piece, we can expect another Trailer soon including footage directly from the Episode itself.

Promptly, the Teaser Trailer is named 'Cutter's Beasts', not only does this directly link to the content of the trailer, but is also a direct reference to the original planning of the show back in the early 2000's. When Tim Haines pitched the idea, he originally intended for Primeval to be a BBC show, and it was under the working title of 'Cutter's Beasts'. However, when the BBC were not interested in two Science Fiction programmes airing simultaneously (Doctor Who had recently been confirmed to be returning to television), Tim Haines began his own production company (Impossible Pictures). So immediately, we can see a reference to the shows history in the name of the Teaser to celebrate the 10th Anniversary.
Looking at the Teaser itself, we can see that the Teaser begins with a shot of Cutter in 5" Scale Action Figure form. He is outside the Anomaly Research Centre before entering multiple different Anomalies, through to multiple different time periods and habitats to showcase the true variety of the Anomaly phenomenon. When asked about the choice to create this promo, Owen Price said, "I wanted to really give Primeval a promotional Trailer reminiscent of the Trailer from 2007 that was produced. A Trailer that was less enigmatic than that one though, and gave the context of the show for anyone who happens to find Primeval X before the original show, whilst also capturing the essence of past non-footage, non-canon Teasers from other TV shows. The incredible Doctor Who Series 5 Promo Trailer with the 11th Doctor and Amy flying through the vortex comes to mind. It isn't a scene from the show, but encapsulates everything the show is. I wanted to achieve the same thing here with Primeval. So I thought, what better way to do it than have Cutter give a monologue whilst travelling through time,"
The ending of the Trailers implies that we may be seeing an Anomaly open out of the ARC teams and the Anomaly Detectors Range. We asked Owen Price what problems this could cause for the team, "Well, you've got a situation harder than ever before for the team. Everything they thought they knew is gone, out the window, Anomalies can open off British soil, and this is something that is almost impossible to contain. They realise that the creatures could cause havoc world wide with no way of preventing them doing so. And this time, they are plunged out of their depth into the unknown, with no back up, and corruption surrounding them,"
With the first Teaser Trailer we also see once more that the special will air in December 2017, as already confirmed by the Teaser Poster. There are five Saturday's in December this year, so presuming Shadow of the Jaguar will be released in the Saturday time slot, there are only five potential days it could do so. We look forward to presenting and analysing future Primeval X News over the coming months.
