PRIMEVAL X EPISODE TITLE ANNOUNCED
The Primeval Site have officially announced that Primeval X, the upcoming 10th Anniversary Special Episode of Primeval, will be named 'Shadow of the Jaguar', and that the special will be based on the original Primeval novel of the same name, written by Steven Savile.
Primeval X had, until now, not had an official Episode Title. Primeval Episodes in general were not named (discounting New World, and the non UK airings of the programme). But since this special is unique, and although set in between Series 2, is not part of a Series of Episodes, it was decided a Title would be necessary to help distinguish the Primeval Episode from others.
Long term Primeval fans will recognise the name as being that of the official canon Primeval Novel, released in 2008, written by Steven Savile. It has been confirmed that Primeval X is an adaptation of this canon expanded material, hence why Primeval X itself is canon.
When asked about the title of the episode, the producer of Primeval X, Owen Price, said, "It was a necessary decision. When I started planning the project, I knew I wanted to make it as close to the Primeval Series as it could possibly be, so why not adapt an official canon novelisation? That way, we get to see an already existing story adapted and formed on screen, something no one ever expected to see. Even if it is just a stop motion Episode as opposed to a live action Episode."
We also asked Owen Price why he decided to base Primeval X on 'Shadow of the Jaguar' in particular, instead of a different novel. "Being the 10th Anniversary, I wanted all the original characters to return, give or take. I knew I wanted it set in Series 2 also, so Claudia wouldn't appear, but her counterpart Jenny Lewis would. And 'The Lost Island' (written by Paul Kearney) was considered as it featured all the original cast, but it portrayed many more obstacles, and some difficult underwater scenes. So I contacted Steven Savile, and over the course of a few emails we agreed that the special could commence. So I started getting some things on paper, and forming a screenplay. And Steven has been brilliant in cooperating with us as the project has developed. I can't thank him enough!"

And finally, when questioned on Primeval X as a whole, Owen stated that he cannot say much more for now, but 'things are happening'. But he did state that "I recommend for any followers of the Site that haven't read the novel to steer clear of it until after the Episode has aired. Obviously, its heavily based on the story of the novel, and it'd be a far superior experience to not know anything about the novel whilst watching the Episode. Hell, don't even Google it if you can resist the spoilers. And if you have already read the novel, then I'm sure you'll still thoroughly enjoy seeing it brought to light on screen, and there are a few little additions and changes here and there, so there's something new for you too! I really hope it is successful, and obviously we have limitations with the production that may disappoint people, but we hope they can look past that and enjoy Primeval on screen once more! Ultimately, although it's a special Episode, and is unique, I wanted this to be (at its core) a Primeval story that could fit in with the television series. Not a spin off. Just a Primeval Episode to expand the universe slightly. And the 'X' in the name simply means '10' (in Roman Numerals) signifying that this is the 10th Anniversary Special. But really, it isn't anything different, this is just Primeval."
"You've got lots of exciting stuff to come. The marketing campaign for the special begins soon, so a Teaser Trailer, and the official Teaser Poster will follow very soon. And this will be accompanied by Promotional Images, Downloadable Content, Behind the Scenes videos, and an abundance of awesome content in the build up to the release. We really hope its as immersive and fun to experience the feeling of a Primeval return as I hope!"
So now we know not only the Episode title, but we could find the basic plot of the special. But, of course, we won't spoil anything for you! And as Owen Price stated, we recommend not Googling the novel, or its plot, even if you want to, until after the Episode has aired.
